Performers Costumes
Performers Costumes
We have made a collage of clothing images, that the performers within our music video are planning to wear. We thought it would be a good idea to plan the costumes for both performers in advance so that we are well prepared and to make sure the outfits fit in with the genre of our video.
We have asked the female performer to select a range of revealing, desirable clothing as it is important to convey Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory, when filming our video.
The male performer is planning to wear smart suits to ensure our video looks professional and to create a star image.

Analysis of Adverts - Jay-Z: Blueprints 3
Jay-Z: Bluebrint 3 is the 11th studio album by rapper Jay-Z which was released 14th September 2009 in the UK. The advert is again an image of the album cover with details telling the audience the release dates of the album and also other crucial information such as the artists website.
The imagery used for the album cover is a pile of instruments which have been stuck together, such as trumpets, keyboards and guitars, which in some eyes could be an example of abstract modern art. It can also suggest to the audience that this artist is very versatile in the music they create. There are 3 red lines overlapping this image, which could be imagery to associate with loyalty or blood, and there are 3 because it is the 3rd blueprint album, meaning there would be previous Blueprint albums released. At the bottom of the advert, the name of the production company is given to advertise also.
The two albums I have chosen are similar through imagery as they both are very artistic and imaginary, and would not be seen in the street for example. For Blueprint 3, I wouldn’t really categorise it as a stereotypical rap album cover, which is the genre it is, for example 50 Cent’s album “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” is a picture of 50 Cent topless, which a bullet hole surrounding the lens of the camera, which shows his association with guns and gang violence.
The font used for the advert is very professional and easy to read, also it is easy to identify who the artist is and what the album is called.
Analysis of Adverts - Gorillaz: Plastic Beach
Gorillaz: Plastic Beach is the 3rd album released by the band Gorillaz, which is considered a super group as it includes band members from other groups such as Damon Albarn from Blur. The advert chosen is promoting the album, which obviously its purpose is to inform people of its release. The advert is generally the cover of the new album with information of its release, name of the album and the name of the band.
Along with the release of the album, Gorillaz decided to release other album covers in conjunction with other countries, but also different editions, such as the “Experience Edition” and also the “iTunes Deluxe edition”. The advert and album cover is cleverly connected as the whole album is based around a fantasy world which David Albarn created, which he believed he could escape to whilst listening to certain music to avoid reality. This gives the listener comfort that when listening to this album, they escape to a different place.
The font used on the album cover and advert is a wavy, which links in with the idea of nautical theme as a beach is near the sea, and the sea is in the action shot of the album cover. At the bottom of the advert, the slogan “Explore the Plastic Beach at www.gorillaz.com “ also links in with the fact that the “Plastic Beach” is an weird place and unknown to mankind which holds mystery.
From my own knowledge, I know that on the new world tour which Gorillaz are performing on, it is all based around nautical, sailing and boats, which again obviously links in with the nautical scene of the “Plastic Beach”.

Gorillaz Digipak Analysis
Gorillaz – Plastic Beach (2010)
Plastic Beach is the new album from Gorillaz, which is basically a music project which is led by Damon Albarn from pop-rock group Blur. The album includes various collaborations with big stars such as Snoop Dogg and De La Soul, and considering the album is based on a fantasy island, it gives the consumer the idea that all the artists associated with Gorillaz live on this fantasy island and that they are trying to escape from reality
The image of the island is taken from someone who appears to be hidden in water, which means that the island may be being spied upon by someone who is willing to expose the hidden and mysterious beach.
The clouds in the sky don’t entirely look like clouds, but smoke from possibly a cannon or gun or even a fire, to show that the band are at war with the rest of the world.
